Sushmita Sen (Bengali:  born 19 November 1975) is an Indian actress who appears in mainly Bollywood films. A former model, Sen was crowned Miss Universe in 1994. She was the first Indian woman to win the contest, and in 2010 she acquired the rights to send delegates from India to Miss Universe through a new pageant I Am She – Miss Universe India.

Her cinematic turning point came with romance Sirf Tum and comedy Biwi No.1 both in 1999, the latter fetched her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. She has since acted in commercial successes like Aankhen (2002), Main Hoon Na (2004) - her biggest commercial success so far and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005). She received high critical acclaim for her female-oriented roles in films such as Filhaal... (2002), Samay: When Time Strikes (2003) and Chingaari (2005).

Sushmita Sen is known as firth Indian Miss Universe and skilled Bollywood actress. She was born on 19 November 1975 in Hyderabad to a Bengali Air Force Commander’s family. She spent her childhood in Delhi and studied at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute. She was keen to pursue a modelling career for which she started efforts from her school days. After completion of her school education Sushmita participated in the Femina Miss India contest and won the title of Miss Universe Crown in 1994. This led her to attend Miss Universe competition. She also won the crown of Miss Universe by becoming first India woman to get the title.

Sushmita joined Bollywood with her debut film “Dastak” in 1996 there she performed the role of a victim of a stalker. This film could not help her to get appreciation. In 1999, she appeared in Bibi No. 1 in a supporting role for which she won her first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. After that she never looked back. She earned one Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in Bibi No. 1 (1999) and two nominations for Filmfare Awards in Sirf Tum (1999) and Filhaal (2002) including several other prestigious awards for her awesome performance in her characters. Her most appreciated films are: Zor, Sirf Tum, Hindustan Ki Kasam, Biwi No.1, Fiza, Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta, Nayak: The Real Hero, Aankhen, Filhaal…, Samay: When Time Strikes, Vaastu Shastra, Main Hoon Na, Chingaari, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?, Main Aisa Hi Hoon, Zindaggi Rocks, Do Knot Disturb and No Problem.
